Soleus means "sole of the foot." Maximal force of movement is achieved by lengthening a muscle (creating tension) to the precise length required to create maximum efficiency. The concept for this project is tension of opposites. I chose to focus on track and field sports and the force required to overcome gravity. The actions I am focusing on are the motions required to run (lifting and setting down the feet when running). These require opposite muscle movements and require the flexing and contraction of muscles.
