Ideate (Oct. 31)
The vision I have for the craft gallery is that it will be a place that showcases the works of regional artists/craftspeople. When I think about the look and feel of the gallery, the words that come to mind are: magical, dynamic, vibrant, unexpected, fragile, organic, edgy and textures. I want to divide the space in interesting ways that lead the patrons on a journey of discovery of the unexpected -- in the work that is displayed and how it is displayed. I also want the materials used in the design of the space to be unusual and unexpected. Obviously, the work will need to be well lit but I want to do something special with the general lighting as well.
In considering concept I must include how my concept will work with the "connections" concept for The Shops At Buffalo Bridge. The case studies I researched included both interior and exterior architecture. I looked for inspiration on lighting, concept, ceiling considerations, as well as materials. Some of this exploration led me to the idea of using layers to implement a concept of discovery.
